Tape

Tape Painting features translucent tape, which is sculpted with acrylic paint and randomly affixed to a white canvas. The tape has a yellowish tint that has deteriorated over time, like traces left on a wall. Having wrinkles and distortions on a flat surface ushers a two dimensional work into a three-dimensional space. The white canvas, by repeating the white wall of the white cube as it is, makes the painting space itself identical to the physical space, and inverts the wall, the space around the painting, or the “ground,” so to speak, into a “figure.”
